Time travel and self-awareness

By Katie

The past few days have been a strange mix of technology, pop culture references, personal exploration and time travel.

Yes, time travel.

I’m currently listening to the audiobook “Eating the Dinosaur“, by Chuck Klosterman. At the same time, I listening to the audio version of “The World is Flat” by Thomas Friedman, and recently watched ‘Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel‘.

Additionally, I was told yesterday that my people pleaser/hostess personality results in a fake persona that often overwhelms others and has the opposite effect of sending those I hope to be close to, running in the other direction.

Now anything starring Anna Ferris is enough to mess with your head, but this is a different feeling. I’m in the perfect storm of truth, weirdness and something that mirrors a quarter-life crisis.

Friedman has made me aware of how technology has changed the way I act. Klosterman has made me aware of how I think I act. The conversation yesterday has made me aware of how I actually act.

I am self-aware. And, I am aware of my self-awareness. It’s a circular, never-ending nightmare.

Like time travel.

Say you go back in time to stop yourself from doing something. If you are successful, there was no reason for you to go back in time in the first place. You’ve negated yourself.

Being aware of my own self-awareness means that every time I’m in a group of people, I will be aware of my change in personality – which in turn will change how I act even more, eventually leading to a breakdown of personality entirely. Instead, I will be merely a reaction to my awareness.

And I’m dizzy.

Being aware of yourself and your own self-awareness is great if you pay attention to your changes in personality/mood and recognize the situations/triggers that cause changes. I find it very useful/comforting/safe that I have moderate control over my self rather than my environment having control by seeing how I fit/react and knowing ahead of time what my range of responses are from being self-aware.

I didn’t run out last night because of you. YOU were not overwhelming at all. It’s the dog and yet its the dog’s house so I left. And aren’t we supposed to please people when we’re hostessing them in our home? I should think so!

Self awareness is an important part of our life, developing your self-awareness is an important things of our life. Without having a sense of personal awareness our personal growth and development cannot increase. Self-awareness helps us to know and accept what we are, and our behavior, and to identify issues and problems that stop our personal growth.
