Much has happened since my last post, nearly a month ago. I’ll update by category.
Teaching – I have resumed my efforts at educating the next generation. We have begun the Texas Revolution unit, my favorite. All of my students have been anticipating the Alamo for nearly a month and actually keep asking when we are going to get to it. I’ve actually heard sighs when I mention that it will start tomorrow or the day after. It surprised me how much I miss them sometimes. I find myself smiling at them in class sometimes. And it seems, that the feeling is somewhat mutual. So far, two of my special education students have written about Dorie and I in their stories for writing class. I’ve been told four times this week that my students love the way I teach. I even had one say “Mr. Smith is a cool teacher, but we don’t learn anything. Your class is fun and you teach us stuff.” The fact that I’m getting compliments from 8th grade teachers on what my students from last year remember, is a cherry on top of the cake. That’s why I Teach For America.
Personal – My resolution this year is to eat healthier. For me, this translates to eating vegetables and fruits. So far, I’ve been doing a superb job. I’m drinking smoothies and have added carrots and celery to my weekly meals. Dorie and I have also joined a local gym and are getting our butts kicked, and in Spanish. AND…I’m blow drying my hair everyday!
So that’s the way things go. Of course, this is all distraction until February, when I find out where I’m moving to. Then the real changes begin!
kudos on being healthier….I need to get my butt back on track as well. And as for where you will be moving…I’m rooting for Chicago. Ummm…Barack Obama is running for office….didn’t you say you wanted to work on his campaign?!!
love ya an miss ya,
Kelly
