No wonder aliens don’t apply for citizenship

I know that I am very impractical in how I keep moving from state to state, re-registering my car, switching over my bank accounts and having to fill out 5 different forms a year for taxes. But none of that is complicated compared to what ASU is expecting me to do now in order to receive in-state residency status.

Here is a list of what I have to get turned in before June 3rd:

- Copy of my AZ driver’s license. I’m hoping my 6/5/2007 license date will be overlooked since ASU’s cut off is June 3rd, 2007 for residency.

- AZ car registration

- Complete bank statements for the last 12 months, all pages. This comes out to over 100 printed pages of just bank stuff.

- Most recent pay stubs (this includes Ringgold, Borders, Teach For America and ASU)

- 2006/2007 Federal and state tax returns (another 30 printed pages)

- Documentation of tuition and financial aid

- My parents have to fill out a form, get it notorized AND mail me their 2006/2007 tax returns AND get letters from their auto and health insurances proving I’m not a dependent

- A 7 page application that I also have to get notorized

All in all, this works out to almost 200 pages of material, just to get in-state residency status that I’ve got already as a TA. If this is what I have to do as a legal U.S. citizen to attend college, imagine what aliens have to do to become citizens of this country. Yikes…it scares me just to think about it.

Uh, if you’ve already got in state tuition as a GA, why are you worrying about all of this?

Haha, seriously. I can’t TA over the summer session, so I was trying to get in-state for that. Might not be worth it though.
