Maybe I won’t vote

Shocking title, I know. This is coming from the woman that cried when she was denied a ballot during the mid-terms in 2002. I haven’t done my usual play by play, political run down for my devoted readers this year and for that I apologize. It may have something to do with listening to NPR, I’m not quite sure yet. Lately, I’ve found myself hitting, not just turning off, but hitting the power button on my radio during the political segments of NPR.

The latest drama, besides Ferraro quitting, is whether or not Florida and Michigan should be allowed to re-do their primaries. First thing that gets under my skin about this is a silly one-liner. Hillary said “So goes Michigan, so goes Florida”. For any of you that know Texas history as well as I (which is no one), would know that was the line given to Colonel William Travis before he took over command of the Alamo (“So goes the Alamo, so goes Texas”). Why can’t politicians and speech writers today make their own historic soundbytes? This always enrages me. Don’t quote Lincoln and Kennedy! Make your own footprint, more so than with your race or gender. This high standard could be a result of my love for Alan Sorkin’s speeches. Maybe he should become a political strategist.

Second thing that upsets me about this whole mess is the back and forth about how Clinton, against party rules, kept her name on the ballot, but Obama still actively tried to get people to write him in. No people are analyzing and re-analyzing how many delegates each would get. I’m sorry, WHO DIDN’T THINK THIS WOULD COME AROUND TO BITE YOU IN THE ASS?!?! I don’t support Hillary’s behind the back dealing, but at least it shows some foresight. And the whining, the back and forth, how is this helping a party that’s main weakness is lack of party unity?!?!? I know how the press always jumps to the line “how is this going to impact the Democrats in the general election”, but I don’t think they’re far off right now. I re-registered as a Democrat so I could vote in Arizona’s closed primary and now I’m wishing I could switch back to Independent.

Third, and this is extremely nit picky, but I don’t like the way any of the candidates address reporters and interviewers. I know journalists are considered about as low as sewer rats. Go figure I go from politics to journalism in my careers, low to lower. The other day Obama was interviewed by NPR. The reporter kept interrupting him, but with good reason. Obama was dodging the questions. One of the reasons I liked Obama to begin with was he gave straight or straighter answers then Clinton. Now he’s all over the place. The reporter asked him besides Iraq, what other difficult decisions has he had to deal with? Obama responded that his had to do with the 3am phone call. When the reporter shot back, it had nothing to do with it, Obama tersely interrupted stating, “now see here” or something like that. He then proceeded to give a general answer about how he deals with tough decisions everyday and then babbled on about Iraq. I could’ve prepped him better for that. How about being a young family man running for president? How about a state/city dealing with a severe transportation crisis? What about the NIU shootings? WHAT HAPPENED TO DOMESTIC ISSUES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Alright, rant finished. Let me just put a disclaimer in here about how this is just opinion and you should take everything I saw with a grain of salt. Learning about agenda-setting and how the general public votes, makes me wary of anyone taking my blogs too seriously :o )

My Spitzer rant will follow shortly.
