Kids do the darndest things

Let me recap the wonderful new experiences I had this week:

1) Had my first girl confess she has just started her period and had to be excused (this one isn’t as entertaining, but hey, I witnessed a coming into womanhood people!)

2) A student told a fellow teacher to “Suck his dick” in Spanish. He has since been moved to another cluster.

3) “Open your hand miss!” only to find my student has placed a huge dead spider there, testing me to see if I’d scream…..I passed.

4) I had the privilage of cutting gum out of one of my student’s hair during a group activity.

5) Telling a student that I didn’t want any more of her “fucking attitude” and playing it off like I meant to let that slip. Don’t worry, it was just between her and I, in a closed off classroom.

But once again, they make it all worth while. During my first ever literacy activity today, my kids had to write down what they were thinking while reading. I actually had students fill up the whole page and tell me that the activity made them learn more about Texas and think differently!! Oh man, they always find a way to reel me back in!

I can’t believe you fell for the “open your hand” trick. You always were a little too trusting. At least she didn’t ask you to close your eyes and open your mouth. ;)
