Filling the ‘void’

I am a literal person. I have always struggled with abstract ideas.  I like fact and reason. I live life as a series of decisions in an organized system I’ve created for myself. I like it. It suits me.

But there is a piece of me – a creative corner of my brain – that needs release.

My mother was an art major before turning to dentistry. I used to look at her paintings and imagine myself in a different world. This has led to a lifelong love of art museums and galleries, where I can dive into pictures, feel the emotions, plan imaginary trips and satisfy that silent need for creativity.

And while I’ve covered walls in pictures of friends and movie posters, I’ve never brought that love of art into my home.

Then, last December, I was given a wonderful gift. The gift of my very own piece of art – ‘You Can Only Live Life’ by Gaping Void.

I love when art combines words and pictures. Working in print, words are very important to me. The combination with an abstract drawing makes the piece more personal and I relate to the art in a way different from others. I love that it is simple and clean with it’s use of just 2 colors, but yet includes the abstract. It’s a mix of my two worlds.

I am 1 in a 100 sharing my love of art. What number are you?
